Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center Announces New Administrator

Leaders of the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa today announced the appointment of Tina Devery as the center's new associate director for administration.

Devery will assume her duties on Aug. 16. Devery received her master's degree in hospital and health administration at the UI. She most recently served in various capacities at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., and with the Mayo Clinic in its Rochester, Minn., and Scottsdale, Ariz., locations.

"Tina has extensive experience in the administration of organizations similar to our Cancer Center, and we are thrilled to have her join us as a member of our team," said George Weiner, M.D., director of the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Devery succeeds Ted Yank, who is currently the administrator of the cancer center at Baylor University. Martha Hedberg, administrator for the division of hematology, oncology, and blood and marrow transplantation in the UI Department of Internal Medicine, served as interim associate director for administration in the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center following Yank's departure. Hedberg will remain in her current position as interim associate director for administration until Devery arrives. Hedberg will continue to work with the Cancer Center in her capacity as division administrator, and in helping strengthen its ethnic outreach activities.

The Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center is Iowa's only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center. NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers are recognized as the leaders in developing new approaches to cancer prevention and cancer care, conducting leading edge research and educating the public about cancer.
