Ruth Bloom Named New Career Advisor At UI

Ruth Bloom of Moline, Ill. was hired March 8 as a career advisor at the University of Iowa's Career Center. Bloom will advise students from the Tippie College of Business, as well as the departments of computer science, statistics and actuarial science about internships and job placement.

"My goal is to ensure that my students are able to make informed career choices throughout their years at the University of Iowa," said Bloom. "This will ultimately lead to a professional job that utilizes their skills, abilities and values."

Bloom worked at Augustana College as the director of Business Internships and the Career Center, while also serving as an assistant professor of accounting. Her experience also includes accounting positions at Barjan Products, Thomas Hammar CPA, and Huckfelt and Smith in the Quad Cities.

Bloom graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a bachelor of science degree in accounting, and she later earned an MBA at Southern Illinois University. She is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Management Accountant.
