Public Meetings On Budget Reductions And Strategic Reinvestment

The University of Iowa General Education Fund Task Force has scheduled two public meetings to receive University community input on proposed budget reductions and opportunities for strategic reinvestment. The meetings will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 15, in Room 101, Biology Building East; and from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, in Room 235, Boyd Law Building.

The GEF Task Force was appointed by UI President David Skorton to recommend $12 million in recurring cuts in expenditures from the University's General Education Fund. It has been meeting on a weekly basis since February to evaluate the many ideas and suggestions generated by its members and by input it has received from the University community.

Skorton recently extended the deadline for the Task Force's report from April 15 to April 30. Before finalizing its report, the Task Force invites members of the university community and the general public to discuss the budget reduction challenge facing the university and the opportunities for strategic reinvestment.
