UI Urban, Regional Planning Program Hosts Visitors' Day Oct. 2

The UI Graduate Program in Urban and Regional Planning is hosting a Visitors' Day Thursday, Oct. 2. The Visitors' Day will feature a panel of alumni who describe their jobs as planners; an opportunity to meet informally with current students and faculty; an overview of the program and admissions process; and a presentation from a student in the joint degree program with law. The scheduled events will begin at 12:15 p.m. on the 3rd floor of Jessup Hall, north end.

Urban and Regional Planning is a profession for people who want to improve the quality of life in cities and regions. Planners are concerned with issues such as affordable housing shortages, groundwater contamination, state economic growth, and transportation congestion. Areas of specialization include economic development, land use and environmental planning, housing and community development, and transportation. Joint degrees are available with law; health management and policy; engineering; environmental health; and social work.

Students in Iowa's Planning Program come from all undergraduate majors, and graduates of the two-year master's program secure interesting jobs nationwide in government, private consulting firms, and non-profit organizations.

Learn what planners do, what the master's degree program offers, and explore the opportunities of a career in Planning. For further information, please call 335-0033 or visit our Web site http://www.uiowa.edu/~urp (click on "Visitors' Day.")
