UI Museum of Art Will Present 'An Evening of Dance' Nov. 14
The University of Iowa Museum of Art will present "An Evening of Dance," an event arranged by UI graduate student Maureen Miner, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14 in the University of Iowa Museum of Art (UIMA). "An Evening of Dance" will be free and open to the public.
The performance will feature contemporary/modern dance and will include duets and group performances by graduate students in the UI Dance Department. The program will include a group piece choreographed by Diego Carrasco.
"I think dancing in other venues for people who may not typically see dance is important," Miner said. "An audience in the visual arts may be interested in dancing, but not have that many opportunities to see it."
Originally from Macomb, Ill., Miner graduated from Western Illinois University with a bachelor's degree in psychology and is now a second-year graduate student in the Dance Department. During the spring of 2003 she participated in Dancers in Company, the UI touring repertory company that performs throughout the state. Miner recently worked with the UI Arts Share program, teaching creative movement at the Creative Arts Camp during the summer of 2003.
The UIMA, located on North Riverside Drive in Iowa City, is open noon to 10 p.m. Thursdays. Admission is free. Public metered parking is available in UI parking lots west and north of the museum.
