UI Dance Marathon To Host Autumn Carnival For Sponsored Families
The University of Iowa Dance Marathon will host an autumn carnival for families sponsored by Dance Marathon from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 in the Amana Colonies.
Sponsored families are invited to four seasonal events sponsored by UI Dance Marathon throughout the year. The autumn event will include horse-drawn hayrack rides, a costume contest, pumpkin decorating, arts and crafts, a haunted house and lunch catered by the Amana Barn restaurant.
Dance Marathon student leaders will also attend the event.
"The interactions between students and families at our family events are indescribable," said Holly Hanson, UI junior and Dance Marathon family programming director. "This is the first time we're hosting the event in the Amana Colonies, so we are excited for students and families to come together and celebrate autumn and our community of support."
Seasonal events, such as the autumn carnival, bring sponsored families together with UI Dance Marathon participants, presenting a unique opportunity for getting to know each other and lending support for families outside the hospital setting.
UI Dance Marathon creates special projects to provide emotional and financial support to families treated by the Children's Hospital of Iowa at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, with an emphasis on the Division of Hematology/Oncology.
