Students Earn Volunteer Scholarships

Volunteer Services at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics awarded scholarships to 13 area students who contributed at least 100 hours of service as hospital volunteers.

The scholarships range from $300 to $500 and recognize local high school seniors for their contributions to Iowa's only academic medical center. This year's recipients include:

Jenna Adam, a graduate of Mid-Prairie High School (Wellman), attending Mt. Mercy College;
Marra Burr, Iowa City High, attending Drake University;
Sara Duffel, Iowa City West High, attending Coe College;
Rachel Ecklund, Iowa City High, attending the University of Iowa;
Abby Gent, Mid-Prairie High School (Wellman), attending St. Ambrose University;
Tina Hansen, Muscatine High School, attending the University of Northern Iowa;
Emily Joynt, Iowa City West High, attending Colorado State University (Joynt received the Guy L. Harris Memorial Scholarship, honoring the graduating senior who has accumulated the most hours of service. She donated more 400 volunteer hours);
Kathleen Miller, Regina High School (Iowa City), attending College of St. Catherine;
Stephanie Smith, Iowa City High, attending Graceland University;
Chelsea Ramey, Tiffin Clear Creek Amana High School, attending Mt. Mercy College;
Sonja Stutzman, Iowa Mennonite School (Kalona), attending Iowa State University;
Melissa Wagner, Regina High School (Iowa City), attending the University of Iowa;
Shanna Williams, Williamsburg High School, attending Kirkwood Community College.
