UI Army ROTC Honors Two Cadets

The University of Iowa Army ROTC, Mighty Hawkeye Battalion, honored two cadets during the Johnson County Military Affairs 2003 Veterans' Day Banquet in Coralville on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Cadet Tara L. Lyons is the 2003 recipient of the Johnson County Military Affairs Superior Cadet (Army) Award. Lyons will graduate in May 2004 with a degree in psychology and will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Upon her commissioning, she plans to serve on active duty as a Medical Service Corps officer. Lyons is a 2000 graduate of Hampton-Dumont High School. She is the daughter of David and Teresa Fox of Hampton, Iowa, and is married to First Lieutenant Sean P. Lyons of Burlington, Iowa.

Cadet Parker A. Day, a senior in the Army ROTC program, has been
selected as the recipient of the 2003 LTC (Ret.) Lynn C. Hanson Memorial Scholarship. Day will graduate in May 2004 with a degree in biology and will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Day plans to serve on active duty in the infantry branch. The memorial award is presented to a senior in the ROTC program who plans to serve in the infantry or military intelligence branch. Day is a 2000 graduate of Walnut Ridge Academy in Waterloo, Iowa. He is the son of Roger and Marliss Day of Waterloo.
