"The Society of Pelvic Surgeons is an incredible group of innovators who have developed many of the techniques that are now used in pelvic surgery," Anderson said. "They are specialists who are at the forefront of the field, and I am humbled by the honor of serving as their president."

The Society of Pelvic Surgeons is an international, multidisciplinary society of surgeons dedicated to excellence in the surgical management of diseases and disorders of the pelvic organs. The society also is committed to exploring the frontiers affecting the surgical treatment of patients through translational research and the development of new surgical techniques.

The society consists of 152 gynecologists, colorectal surgeons, surgical oncologists and urologists. Specialists founded the organization in 1952. Anderson was the second woman to be elected to membership in the society, and is also the first woman to serve as its president.
