Bluesman And Turkish Musician Will Be Guests On 'Know The Score LIVE!" June 13
Bluesman Patrick Hazell and Turkish Musician Bahri Karacay will be among the guests when UI radio station KSUI, 91.7 FM (101.7 FM in Dubuque) broadcasts "Know the Score LIVE!" from the UI Museum of Art 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 13.
The program, part of the weekly arts and humanities series hosted by Joan Kjaer on KSUI, will take place before a live audience in the Museum of Art and will be broadcast over KSUI at that time as well as 3-5 p.m. June 15, and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 18. Listen on the internet at http://ksui.uiowa.edu.
Hazell is a legendary performer, best known for his blues work in clubs and festivals in the Midwest. A piano and harmonica player, Hazell was a member of "Mother Blues." Moving in a new direction, he has recently collaborated with Karacai, a medical researcher at the UI who is an extremely well known folk performer in Turkey. Karacai performs on the saz, a lute-like stringed instrument.
Hazell's recordings over the past years have explored soundscapes and improvisation. The program will sample those projects, as well as Hazell's collaborations with Karacai, and Hazell will tell the audience about a bell project he recently undertook in Burlington.
Other guests will be percussionist Will Parsons and banjo player Bob Black.
M.C. Ginsberg Objects of Art, Inc. of Iowa City is the corporate sponsor of "Know the Score" broadcasts at the UI Museum of Art.
The UI Museum of Art, located on North Riverside Drive in Iowa City, is open noon to 10 p.m. Fridays. Admission is free to the museum and to the "Know the Score LIVE!" broadcast. Public metered parking is available in UI parking lots west and north of the museum.
