Scott King To Speak At Graduation, Global Scholar Celebration May 15

Scott King will give his first keynote address as the new director of the University of Iowa's Office of International Students and Scholars at this year's International Programs' Graduation and Global Scholars Celebration. His address, "Keeping The Door Open," will be Thursday, May 15 at 2:30 p.m. in the International Center Lounge. King's address will focus on the need for international perspectives in higher education. He will also discuss what international students and others can do in a positive way to combat the current anti-foreigner viewpoint of the U.S. government.

Some 265 University of Iowa students have been invited to the reception. This includes graduating international students as well as both international and domestic students who are international area studies majors, minors, and certificate holders.

King, who joined the UI in March, has 24 years of experience in the field of international education and has served as director of similar offices in Virginia, Alabama and Texas. He has a master's degree in American studies from the University of Dallas.

The Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) is part of UI International Programs, which consists of a number of offices, centers, degree programs, academic programs, research projects, and services. Organized under the associate provost and dean for international programs, these units serve to further internationalize the campus and community and promote global scholarship, research and teaching.

The International Center is located at the end of Ferson Avenue in Iowa City, off of Park Road or by foot up the stairway from Riverside Drive.
