Ten-Minute Play Festival Showcases Young UI Playwrights April 3-6

The University of Iowa department of theatre arts will present its annual Ten-Minute Play Festival, a showcase for the work of undergraduate playwrights, at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, April 3-5, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 6 in Theatre B of the UI Theatre Building.

Artistic Director Kate Aspengren, a graduate of the Iowa Playwrights Workshop and founder of the Ten-Minute Play Festival, comments: "As always, the festival includes a wide range of writing styles and subject material. It's great that our undergraduate playwrights are given this opportunity to see their work produced."

The production's line-up features:
--"Rex," written by Cassie Gonzales and directed by Jeannine Coulombe;
--"The Correspondence," written by Joy Odeyemi and directed by Janet Bentley;
--"Thick," written by Paul Rust and directed by Spencer Griffin;
--"CP I Love U," written by Chris LaVoie and directed by Nancy C. Rather Mayfield;
--"Names," written by Toni Wilson and directed by William Barbour;
--"Whiskey Sour," written by Andy Lee and directed by Amber Miller; and
--"It Ain't No Honeymoon," written by Eric R. Burchett and directed by Jaret Morlan.

Admission to the Ten-Minute Play Festival will be $5 ($3 for UI students) at the door. Tickets will go on sale one hour before curtain time.

The Department of Theatre Arts is a unit of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
