UI Co-sponsors Iowa City Job Skills Fair March 4
Several Iowa City organizations and representatives of the University of Iowa are offering a "Building Blocks for Employment" job skills development fair for the residents of the Broadway and Pheasant Ridge neighborhoods from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 4.
The fair will be at Eastdale Plaza on First Avenue and features instructions on writing cover letters and resumes, completing a job application, the dos and don'ts of interviewing, how to make a positive impression on employers and the best ways to follow up with employers.
Kathryn Gerken, a professor in the UI College of Education's department of psychological and quantitative foundations, and Paul Retish, a professor in the department of curriculum and instruction, along with at least 12 other UI staff members and graduate and undergraduate students, will help with the fair. They are members of the Human Rights Education Committee and/or have been recruited by committee members to help with the fair.
The March 4 Fair is co-sponsored by the Iowa City Human Rights Commission, the Human Rights Education Committee, the Johnson County Neighborhood Center, Goodwill's Employment Services, Westaff and the Iowa Workforce Development Center.
