MEDIA ADVISORY: UI Professors Available To Discuss Supreme Court Retirements
Two University of Iowa professors will be available for media interviews in the coming weeks should any justices of the U.S. Supreme Court retire at the end of the current term.
Court observers believe Chief Justice William Rehnquist and Associate Justice Sandra Day O'Conner may soon announce their retirement from the bench. Our professors can offer analysis and insight into the retiring justice's legacy, how the departure may affect the court, the political process that will lead to the appointment of a new justice and other legal and political issues arising from the retirement.
The professors are:
-- Stephanos Bibas, associate professor of law, UI College of Law (Bibas will be traveling away from Iowa next week, but has agreed to return phone calls to media representatives who want to interview him. To arrange an interview, please call Tom Snee at 319-384-0010.)
Bibas is a longtime observer of the Supreme Court and participant in the Supreme Court Forecasting Project. He also worked with the justices as a law clerk for Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy in 1997 and 1998.
-- Tim Hagle, associate professor of political science, 319-335-2348; email@example.com
Also a long-time Supreme Court observer, Hagle is an expert on the U.S. judiciary and politics, particularly the selection process for new judges and justices.
