Media Advisory: Iowa Teachers Attend UI Workshop On Middle East

WHO: 20 K-12 teachers from schools throughout Iowa
WHAT: International Programs Summer Institute for Teachers
WHEN: June 16-20 from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:30 p.m. daily
WHERE: Room 113 MacLean Hall and other locations on the University of Iowa campus

The workshop, which will be facilitated by Rex Honey, professor of geography in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and director of the UI Global Studies Program, is designed to help teachers who are developing new courses or revamping curricula about the Middle East.

It will feature guest lecturers who will share their insights on such topics as the cultures of the Middle East, Islam and Judaism, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Afghanistan and the war on terrorism, and the current situation in Iraq. There will also be related activities, special events and entertainment throughout the week.
