UI Center on Aging establishes interdisciplinary graduate fellowship fund
The University of Iowa Center on Aging, in collaboration
with the UI Colleges of Public Health and Nursing, the School of Social Work
and the Aging Studies Program, has established an annual, interdisciplinary
graduate fellowship fund.
The fund will benefit four incoming or current graduate students seeking
to increase their expertise in gerontology through specialized courses, research,
practicum and/or independent study. Four $1,000 fellowships will be awarded,
each to a graduate student pursuing an aging-related concentration of study
in public health, nursing or social work. Graduate students currently enrolled
in the Certificate in Aging Studies Program or enrolled by the semester of
the award are also eligible for the fellowship.
The awardees are expected to attend regularly scheduled meetings with the
other fellows who receive awards the same year. The meetings will allow fellows
to learn from each other and faculty about the different disciplines, engage
in interdisciplinary learning activities and increase skills needed to collaborate
on interdisciplinary teams.
The fellowships will be awarded primarily on the basis of academic merit
and may be applied toward fall 2003 educational expenses such as tuition,
books, computer fees and conference attendance.
Applications will be reviewed by a scholarship committee composed of UI
faculty and staff representing the UI Center on Aging, Colleges of Public
Health and Nursing, School of Social Work, and Aging Studies Program.
The deadline for applications is March 3. Awardees will be announced by
April 11. For an application or more information, contact Trish Bonica at
the UI Center on Aging at (319) 335-7731 or via e-mail at email@example.com.
