UI Conference Focuses On Emotion, Politics
A University of Iowa conference will bring together top scholars interested in the role emotions play in politics. David Redlawsk and Bob Boynton, both in the department of political science in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, have organized the "Shambaugh Conference on Affect and Cognition in Political Action," scheduled for March 6-9 in 302 Schaeffer Hall (Commons Room.)
Redlawsk said political scientists have devoted a great deal of research to understanding the ways thinking impacts politics, but only recently have begun to consider "affect" or feeling. He said the UI conference will be the first political science meeting focused specifically on cutting-edge research on emotions and politics.
Other UI participants include: Lisa Troyer and Dawn Robinson, sociology; John Nelson, political science; and Ralph Adolphs, neurology and neurosurgery. Outside participants are coming from Loyola University-Chicago, Rutgers University, State University of New York-Stony Brook, Texas A&M University, University of Massachusetts, University of Michigan, University of North Carolina, and Williams College.
