Graduate Forum To Be Held Feb. 28 To March 1
The University of Iowa Graduate Student Senate, with support from the UI's Graduate College, will hold the 2003 James F. Jakobsen Graduate Forum at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28 and 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 1 in the River Room of the Iowa Memorial Union.
The forum, now in its fifth year, will showcase the work completed by UI graduate students. This event provides a unique opportunity for students to experience a professional conference while interacting with students across all disciplines.
In the past several years, 120 to 170 UI graduate students have presented work in the sciences, humanities and fine and performing arts at each of the Jakobsen Forums.
James F. Jakobsen, associate dean of the Graduate College from 1968 until his retirement in 1998, served as the Graduate Student Senate liaison throughout his career.
Renaming the Graduate Forum the James F. Jakobsen Graduate Forum honored Jakobsen's long-standing commitment to the UI Graduate Student Senate and to graduate student education.
The UI Graduate College continues to support the interdisciplinary forum and has committed $5,000 to be awarded to the top presenters in each division.
The event will conclude with the Awards Announcement Ceremony at 5:30 p.m.
March 1, followed by a social in the second-floor ballroom of the IMU.
