Hockey Jersey Auction To Support Children's Hospital Of Iowa
Hockey fans can purchase a unique souvenir this weekend when the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders will literally give the shirts off their backs to support the Children's Miracle Network and to help patients at Children's Hospital of Iowa.
The RoughRiders wore special jerseys on Oct. 20, Nov. 1, Nov. 27, and Dec. 15 in 2002, and again on Jan. 24, 2003. The jerseys are adorned with the logos of Children's Miracle Network and Krispy Kreme, a major supporter of Children's Hospital of Iowa. Krispy Kreme donated costs of providing the jerseys. The players will wear the jerseys again Feb. 15. After the game on Feb. 15, the jerseys will be auctioned with all proceeds to benefit CMN. The minimum bid for each jersey will be $100. Last year, Roughriders fans donated more than $12,600 to Children's Miracle Network through the jersey auction.
Proceeds of the event will benefit patients of Children's Hospital of Iowa at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City and its outreach clinics across the state. Some 100 percent of all donations to Children's Miracle Network remain in the local region to benefit critically ill and injured children. More than 100,000 children receive care at Children's Hospital of Iowa each year.
Children's Miracle Network is the nation's largest charitable organization. All of the funds raised stay in the area to benefit the local children's hospital. Money donated to Children's Miracle Network is used to enhance the quality of patient hospital stays, support research and to purchase sophisticated pediatric health care equipment.
