College students to gather at UI for statewide entrepreneurs conference
Student entrepreneurs from colleges and universities across Iowa will gather at the University of Iowa for the Collegiate Entrepreneurs Iowa Conference. The second annual event will be Feb. 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the University of Iowa Memorial Union in Iowa City. Last year's conference in Ames drew 250 students from 15 post-secondary institutions in Iowa.
This all-day program will bring together Iowa college students and faculty for a day of networking, brainstorming, listening to speakers, and education. The conference is free to students and faculty.
The Entrepreneur Showcase Luncheon will recognize the 2002 Pappajohn New Venture Business Plan Competition winners and the 2003 Pappajohn Scholarship winners as well as others who support entrepreneurship in Iowa.
Speakers include Chesca Colloredo-Mansfeld, associate director of the Hawkinson Institute at the UI, and former eToys vice president of special projects; Edward Moldt, former UI JPEC director and successful entrepreneur; Madolyn Johnson, founder and president of The HomeMaker's Idea Company.
The John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Centers (JPEC) at Iowa State University, North Iowa Area Community College, the University of Iowa, the University of Northern Iowa and Drake University will host the conference. Conference sponsors include the Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization! (CEO!), the Coleman Foundation, as well as the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Centers at the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, University of Northern Iowa, North Iowa Area Community College, and Drake University.
