Army ROTC Honors Commissioned Cadets

The University of Iowa Army ROTC, Mighty Hawkeye Battalion, recently honored seven cadets who graduated from college in fall 2003 and accepted commissions as second lieutenants into the U.S. Army.

Dave Lewis, ROTC assistant professor of military science, noted that each of the new officers freely takes a solemn oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies both foreign and domestic with the understanding that they soon may be asked to serve in Iraq, Afghanistan or other overseas posts.

The newly commissioned officers, listed by hometown, are:

IOWA

Cedar Rapids
Christopher Marshall Fauchier of Cedar Falls, a fall 2003 Coe College graduate, was commissioned into the Iowa National Guard as an armor officer.

Maquoketa
Angela Gray of Maquoketa, a fall 2003 UI graduate, was commissioned into the Iowa National Guard as an ordnance officer.

Sigourney
Benjamin Blaylock of Sigourney, a fall 2003 UI graduate, was commissioned into the U.S. Army on active duty as an infantry officer.

Taintor
Corey Langman of Taintor, a fall 2003 UI graduate, was commissioned into the Iowa National Guard as an armor officer.

Waverly
Samuel Grummons of Waverly, a fall 2003 UI graduate, was commissioned into the Iowa National Guard as a signal officer.

ILLINOIS

Mount Prospect
Juan Garcia of Mount Prospect, a fall 2003 UI graduate, was commissioned into the Illinois National Guard.

Pekin
Kevin Wolf of Pekin, a fall 2003 UI graduate, was commissioned into active duty with the U.S. Army as a field artillery officer.
