Official Hawkeye Bowl Buttons Now Available
The official bowl button commemorating the University of Iowa football team's appearance in the Outback Bowl is now on sale at retail stores across the state. This year's 3 1/2-inch diameter metal button features "gold ingot" I-O-W-A lettering and an action player in a stylized Hawkeye uniform. The button also includes the Outback Bowl logo, the game date and the opponent's name, enhancing its value as a collector's item. The official bowl button sells for $3.
"I wanted to bring a rich new look to I-O-W-A lettering this year, and also give visibility to the Hawkeye uniform," says Jerold Best, manager of UI's Audiovisual Center Graphics Unit and originator of the official bowl button concept over 20 years ago. "I like to bring something fresh to our button collection each year, and I think this fills the bill. It should be a lot of fun for Hawk fans to wear, in Iowa and in Tampa."
Iowa's Outback Bowl invitation marks the Hawkeyes' 17th post-season appearance in the last 22 years and the third under five-year head coach Kirk Ferentz. An official bowl button has been designed for each of those games.
The button is available now in the Iowa City/Coralville area at Iowa Book and Supply, IMU Bookstore, the Hawk Shop, Paul's Discount, Walgreen's, Drug Town, Towncrest Pharmacy, UniversiTees, Lorenz Boot Shop and UIHC Gift Shop. Drug Towns in Cedar Rapids also carry the button as do stores from Fort Madison to Coon Rapids.
