UI Hospitals And Clinics Revises Complimentary Parking System
Officials at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics today announced revisions to the medical center's Complimentary Parking Program. The complimentary parking program is intended to provide parking free of charge to all ambulatory patients who come to Iowa's only academic medical center for a clinic visit.
Following an internal audit of the program issued April 21, 2003, UI Hospitals and Clinics leaders appointed a task force to develop recommendations for a revised program.
The task force recommended replacing the current validation method of issuing printed passes with a process that will place validation stickers on the back of parking ramp transaction tickets and valet parking claim tickets. The stickers will be sequentially numbered for audit purposes.
"We want a system that will be easy to use for patients and their drivers, as well as for hospital and parking ramp staff members," said John Fieselmann, M.D., associate director and chief of ambulatory care.
In addition, the Office of Ambulatory Care Services will assume financial oversight of the program. Administrators from this office will ensure timely and consistent training of clinical staff members who are responsible for validation of complimentary parking.
Scheduling letters and parking area signage will inform patients about the impending change in the complimentary parking program ticket validation process, scheduled to go into effect Nov. 1. Approximately 300,000 clinical patients receive complimentary parking passes per year.
