WRAC Offers Workshop On Organizing For Social Change
The Women's Resource and Action Center's ongoing Social Change Training Program continues with the workshop "Taking It to the Streets: Organizing -- Together -- for Change!" from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 22 in the Minnesota Room of the Iowa Memorial Union. There is no charge for the workshop, but participants are asked to pre-register so that adequate materials can be prepared.
This workshop will teach the use of strategy charts as tools for making social change. The presentation will emphasize the importance of choosing attainable goals and designing an issue to maximize community support. Participants will learn a step-by-step process for choosing issues and developing strategies, engaging in outreach and coalition building, and planning tactics for social change.
The workshop will be presented by members of Iowa Women Initiating Social Change, an activist training program for volunteers at the Center. According to Molly Greiner, coordinator of the group, "Now more than ever, it is critical to find ways to best utilize the energy and resources available to achieve one's goals for social change."
To register for the workshop or to request an accommodation to participate, call the center at 319-335-1486.
