KHAK-FM raises $116,000 to support Children's Miracle Network

The Brain and the Bear of KHAK- FM raised $116,264 to support the Children's Miracle Network during their sixth annual radiothon Sept. 17-20 in the main lobby of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Proceeds of the 100-hour event will benefit patients of Children's Hospital of Iowa at UI Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City and its outreach clinics. Some 100 percent of all donations to the radiothon remain in the local region to benefit critically ill and injured children. More than 100,000 children receive care at Children's Hospital of Iowa each year.

"Our listeners are the greatest," said The Brain. "Every time we ask them to support Children's Hospital of Iowa they step up and come through."

"This radiothon is really a labor of love. It is one of the most satisfying projects for all of us at KHAK," added The Bear.

The event began at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17 and concluded at noon Friday, Sept. 20. The Brain and The Bear shared the stories of former and current patients of Children's Hospital of Iowa, and the dedicated physicians, nurses and other health care professionals who care for them.

Children's Miracle Network is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for 170 children's hospitals throughout North America.
