Y105-FM radiothon raises more than $40,000 for Children's Miracle Network
A Dubuque radio station raised $40,329 last week for the Children's Miracle
Network, which will use proceeds from the event to benefit critically ill
and injured children at Childrens Hospital of Iowa in University of
Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Y105-FM personalities Chris Farber and Rachel Redford co-hosted the 100-hour
event in Dubuque's Kennedy Mall. The radiothon kicked off at 6 a.m. Tuesday,
Sept. 3 and concluded at noon Saturday. Sept. 7.
Farber and Redford shared the stories of former and current patients of
Children's Hospital of Iowa and the dedicated physicians, nurses, and other
health care professionals who care for them.
"What an incredible week," Farber said. "Our listeners have
big hearts, and this is a cause that they can really feel good about supporting.
We met so many Tri-State families who shared their personal stories. We were
also thrilled with the local schools that surprised us with their wonderful
gifts. Kids helping kids
that is so great."
Redford said, "The hours are long, but the radiothon actually goes
by very quickly. Hearing the stories of these special kids and their families
is really a very rewarding experience for us."
Children's Miracle Network is an international, non-profit organization
dedicated to raising funds for 170 children's hospitals throughout North America.
One hundred percent of all donations to the radiothon remain in the local
region to benefit critically ill and injured children.
More than 100,000 children receive care at the Children's Hospital of Iowa
each year, including thousands from eastern Iowa, western Illinois and western
