UI Alumni Association hosts Family Weekend Nov 8-10

The University of Iowa Alumni Association and Student Alumni Ambassadors will host Family Weekend 2002,"Bringing Home the Black and Gold," Nov. 8-10 for family members of UI students.

More than 1,000 parents and family members will get a taste of student life during the weekend featuring the Iowa / Northwestern football game on Saturday. Activities starting on Friday, Nov. 8 include classroom visits, a guided tour of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, lunch at the remodeled Hillcrest Residence Hall Market Place, campus bus tours and a visit to the Museum of Natural History at Macbride Hall in the afternoon.

"A Family Affair: A Winning Combination," a new event showcasing various UI professionals, will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Levitt Center. John Gilbert from the UI Marching Band, Rob Cline from Hancher Auditorium, Professor Emeritus Samuel Becker and Jay Holstein, professor of religious studies, will explain why the UI offers a unique and dynamic environment for students and families.

On Saturday, a tailgate party will be held in the Field House North Gym (east of Kinnick Stadium) three hours prior to the Hawkeye football game against Northwestern at Kinnick Stadium (kickoff time to be announced).

Back by popular demand, a Casino Night and Auction will be Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Iowa Memorial Union. Family Weekend attendees can participate in a variety of games and an auction of Hawkeye memorabilia.

The weekend will end with a farewell breakfast buffet with Interim UI President Willard "Sandy" Boyd at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Iowa City at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10.

Family Weekend is coordinated by the UI Alumni Association and STAT (Students Today Alumni Tomorrow) Ambassadors, who are student representatives striving to be leaders and companions to fellow students, their families, alumni and the Iowa City community. STAT Ambassadors Tyler Eason and Nikki Gevock are co-chairing this year's event.

Registration deadline is Oct. 28. For a full schedule of events and more information, contact the UI Alumni Association at (319) 335-3294 or http://www.iowalum.com/familyweekend.
