DiPardo named co-editor of English education journal
Anne DiPardo, an associate professor in the University of Iowa College of
Education's department of curriculum and instruction, has been appointed co-editor
of Research in the Teaching of English (RTE), a research journal published
by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).
As co-editor DiPardo will send submitted manuscripts to reviewers, integrate
reviewers' feedback into response letters to the authors and guide the revision
During DiPardo's five-year term she will undertake initiatives to enhance
the visibility of the journal among policy-makers and classroom teachers,
including a book project that will bring together important RTE articles.
The journal, which has a circulation of more than 4,000, embraces multiple

University of Iowa in 1967 by the late Richard Braddock, a former professor.
"After all these years, those of us in literacy studies are still well
aware of the substantial footprints Dick Braddock left behind," DiPardo
said. "The fact that he was one of our own here at the UI means a great
deal to me, especially now."
DiPardo, who earned her Ph.D. in education in language and literacy from
the University of California, Berkeley, joined the UI faculty in 1991 and
was promoted to associate professor in 1996. She received NCTE's Promising
Research Award during her first year at the UI and the Conference on English
Education's Richard A. Meade Award in 2000 for her book, Teaching in Common,
which describes the work of several collaborative teaching teams in Midwestern
