Local UI student serving as officer in student public relations group

DAVENPORT: Brittain Swetalla of Davenport, Iowa is serving as Communications Liaison of the University of Iowa chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America. Swetalla, a UI senior who is majoring in journalism and communications studies has been a member of PRSSA for four years. She is a 1999 graduate of Assumption High School and the daughter of Davenport Central basketball coach Ray Swetalla. As Communications Liaison, Swetalla is responsible for maintaining the relationship between PRSSA and the professional organization Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). She also serves as a link between the National PRSSA board and creates educational PR opportunities for the members.

KEOTA: Lena Baker of Keota is serving as Firm Director of the University of Iowa chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America. Baker, a UI senior who is majoring in journalism and sociology, has been a member of PRSSA for three years. She is a 1999 graduate of Keota High School and the daughter of Tom and Donna Baker.As Firm Director, Baker is responsible for overseeing the duties of the Public Image Firm as well as providing non-profit and University-based organizations actual public relations services. Some of these services include constructing strategic public relations plans, creating publications and promotional material, conducting research of organizations and writing press releases and various other print media.

LONG GROVE: Kelly Oster of Long Grove, is serving as Fundraising Director of the University of Iowa chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America. Oster, a UI senior who is majoring in business marketing, has been a member of PRSSA for three years. She is a 1999 graduate of North Scott High School and the daughter of Bill and Pat Oster. As Fundraising Director, Oster is responsible for planning special events and fundraising activities as well as organizing committees. She also serves as the Event Coordinator of the Annual State-Wide PRSSA Social.

MARSHALLTOWN: Bethney Larson of Marshalltown is serving as Secretary of the University of Iowa chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America. Larson, a UI Senior who is double majoring in Journalism and Communication Studies has been a member of PRSSA for two years. She is a 1999 graduate of Marshalltown High School and the daughter of Mark and Nancy Larson. As Secretary, Larson is responsible for taking meeting minutes, organizing and updating PRSSA files, organizing new member applications and informing members of PRSSA information via email.

URBANDALE: Amanda Jackson of Urbandale is serving as Vice President of the University of Iowa chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America. Jackson, a UI senior who is majoring in journalism and English has been a member of PRSSA for four years. She is a 1999 graduate of Urbandale High School and the daughter of Amy and JeffJackson. As Vice President, Jackson is responsible for assisting in all sectors of the organization and planning Community Service projects.

The Public Relations Student Society of America is a nationwide pre-professional organization for students interested in public relations and related fields. The University of Iowa's chapter is named after James. F. Fox, a successful PRSA member and University of Iowa Journalism and Mass Communications alumnus. The group offers excellent educational programs, professional-amateur exchanges, awards and social events.
