UI Hospitals and Clinics Volunteer Services awards scholarships to local students

Volunteer Services at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics awarded scholarships to 12 area students who contributed at least 100 hours of service as hospital volunteers.

Lynn Van Houweling, a 2002 graduate of Solon High School, received the first Guy L. Harris Memorial Scholarship. The $700 scholarship in memory of Harris honors the graduating high school senior who accumulates the most hours of volunteer service at UI Hospitals and Clinics.

In addition, the following area students received $500 scholarships for the fall 2002 semester:

-- Fran Boyken, Iowa City High School, currently attending the UI;

-- Eva Fleckenstein, Iowa City West High School, currently attending Cornell University;

-- Sarah Knosp, Iowa City West High School, currently attending Luther College;

-- Michael Landers, Iowa City High School, currently attending Kirkwood Community College;

-- Ryan Lilly-Sigler, Iowa City West High School, currently attending Luther College;

-- Jeffrey Miller, Iowa Mennonite School, currently attending Northwestern University;

-- Jessie Skibbe, Iowa City West High School, currently attending Kirkwood Community College;

-- Melissa Slezak, Iowa City High School, currently attending the UI;

-- Nan Tong, Iowa City West High School, currently attending the UI;

-- Lisa Weinstock, Iowa City West High School, currently attending Kirkwood Community College;

-- Jennifer Wu, Iowa City West High School currently attending Wellesley College.
