Ellingrod receives award from American College of Clinical Pharmacy
Vicki Ellingrod, Pharm.D., assistant professor of clinical and administrative
pharmacy in the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, was named the recipient
of the Young Investigator of the Year Award from the American College of Clinical
Ellingrod is currently director of the pharmacogenetics laboratory in the
College of Pharmacy. Her research focuses on genetic variations in drug metabolism,
the occurrence of side effects and differences in outcome due to this genetic
variability. Recently she was the recipient of a five-year career development
award from the National Institute of Mental Health to investigate the genetic
basis of antipsychotic metabolism.
Ellingrod will receive the award at an ACCP meeting next April in Palm Springs,
Calif. She is the third current or former UI College of Pharmacy faculty member
to receive the Young Investigator of the Year Award. Bradley Phillips, Pharm.D.,
UI associate professor of clinical and administrative pharmacy, won the award
in 2001. Former pharmacy faculty member Michael Klepser, Pharm.D., professor
of clinical pharmacy at Ferris State University, received the honor in 2002.
