Ellingrod receives award from American College of Clinical Pharmacy

Vicki Ellingrod, Pharm.D., assistant professor of clinical and administrative pharmacy in the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, was named the recipient of the Young Investigator of the Year Award from the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP).

Ellingrod is currently director of the pharmacogenetics laboratory in the College of Pharmacy. Her research focuses on genetic variations in drug metabolism, the occurrence of side effects and differences in outcome due to this genetic variability. Recently she was the recipient of a five-year career development award from the National Institute of Mental Health to investigate the genetic basis of antipsychotic metabolism.

Ellingrod will receive the award at an ACCP meeting next April in Palm Springs, Calif. She is the third current or former UI College of Pharmacy faculty member to receive the Young Investigator of the Year Award. Bradley Phillips, Pharm.D., UI associate professor of clinical and administrative pharmacy, won the award in 2001. Former pharmacy faculty member Michael Klepser, Pharm.D., professor of clinical pharmacy at Ferris State University, received the honor in 2002. This is the fourth year the ACCP has given the Young Investigator of the Year Award.
