Hancher Box Office offers gift certificates for holiday giving

The Hancher Auditorium box office at the University of Iowa is prepared for the holiday season, with gift certificates and tickets for the lovers of music, theater and dance on anyone's gift list. This season the Hancher box office will remain open through Saturday, Dec. 21, making UI arts gift certificates available almost until the last minute.

Hancher gift certificates -- available in $5, $10, $20 and $50 amounts -- may be redeemed during the next year for tickets to any of the UI-sponsored performances handled by the Hancher box office. This includes not only the internationally renowned music, theater and dance artists presented by the auditorium, but also all the Mainstage productions of University Theatres, productions of the Iowa Summer Rep professional company, major productions of UI Opera Theater and the Old Gold Singers, the UI Dance Company's annual Dance Gala and the UI Band Extravaganza.

For gift-givers who know exactly what performances their recipients have been dreaming about, the box office will provide tickets to specific events during the remainder of the 2002-2003 season. Among the spring 2003 Hancher events that promise to be popular choices are the Urban Bush Women's Hancher-commissioned "Shadow's Child," Grammy-winning jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves, the return of "Riverdance," Sousa impersonator Keith Brion with the UI Symphony Band and the Stuttgart Ballet's "Romeo and Juliet."

Hancher Auditorium box office business hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. From the local calling area, dial (319) 335-1160. Long distance is toll-free, 1-800-HANCHER. Fax to (319) 353-2284. People with special needs for access, seating and auxiliary services should dial (319) 335-1158, which is equipped with TDD for people with hearing impairment who use that technology.

Orders may be charged to VISA, MasterCard or American Express. UI students may charge their purchases to their university bills, and UI faculty and staff may select the option of payroll deduction. Information and brochures may be requested by e-mail: <hancherboxoffice@uiowa.edu>.

Hancher gift certificates are not available for purchase on-line.
