I-CASH brochure, UI-ISU report on health impacts of CAFOs now available
A free brochure on the public health and community impacts of concentrated
animal feeding operations (CAFOs) is now available from Iowa's Center for
Agricultural Safety and Health (I-CASH).
The brochure summarizes research related to CAFOs, including respiratory
and other illnesses, odor pollution, water quality, antimicrobial resistance
and community impacts. The brochure also lists references to printed and online
reports and other information related to CAFOs.
A February 2002 report, "Iowa Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations
Air Quality Study," produced by the University of Iowa College of Public
Health and Iowa State University, has been reprinted and also is available.
This report addresses public health and environmental concerns arising from
air emissions from CAFOs.
To receive a copy of the brochure or the air quality report, call (319)
335-4438. Both publications are also available online through the I-CASH Web
site at www.public-health.uiowa.edu/ICASH/PUBS.HTM.
