Free performance of 'American Dreamer' part of Nov. 14 I-CASH meeting

The play "American Dreamer" will be performed at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14 at the Holiday Inn in Little Amana. The performance, which is free and open to the public, concludes the two-day Midwest Agricultural Safety and Health Forum, hosted by Iowa's Center for Agricultural Safety and Health (I-CASH).

The play, written by Cynthia Mercati, is based on the book, "American Dreamer: The Life and Times of Henry A. Wallace" by John C. Culver and John Hyde. It tells the story of Wallace (1888-1965), a native Iowan who was a geneticist, author, economist and businessman. Wallace was U.S. Secretary of Agriculture from 1933-1940, served one term as vice president under Franklin D. Roosevelt and then held the post of Secretary of Commerce. He waged his own campaign for president in 1948 as the candidate for the Progressive Party.
