Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center to host 'Celebration of Life' June
Former Iowa football head coach Hayden Fry is scheduled to join fellow patients
and staff members of Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University
of Iowa to observe National Cancer Survivor Day on Sunday, June 2, on the
patio of the John Colloton Pavilion at UI Hospitals and Clinics.
The first Sunday of each June is set aside to honor the millions of cancer
survivors around the world who lead rewarding lives and also to honor the
memory of those who lived well but ultimately succumbed to their cancer.
"We are calling our event 'A Celebration of Life,'" said George
Weiner, M.D., director of Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. "We honor
the lives of all of our patients, not only those who survived cancer but those
who faced the disease with dignity and courage."
The National Cancer Survivor Day observance will take place from 2 to 4
p.m. The event will feature an ice cream social and dove release. For more
information or to register, contact the Cancer Information Service at (319)
356-3000 or toll free at (800) 237-1225.
