Abramowitz named to Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners
Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack recently appointed Paul Abramowitz, Pharm.D., director
of the Department of Pharmaceutical Care at University of Iowa Hospitals and
Clinics and professor of clinical and administrative pharmacy in the UI College
of Pharmacy, to serve a second term on the Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners.
Abramowitz's term will run through 2005. The Board of Pharmacy Examiners
is responsible for regulating the practice of pharmacy and the legal distribution
of prescription drugs throughout the state. It is comprised of five pharmacist
members and two representatives from the general public.
Abramowitz also serves as chair of the board of directors of the Iowa Statewide
Poison Control Center, a joint venture of UI Hospitals and Clinics and the
Iowa Health System. Abramowitz is a past-president of the American Society
of Health-System Pharmacists.
Jordan Cohen, dean of the UI College of Pharmacy, commented, "We are
very proud that one of our faculty continues to serve on the Board of Pharmacy
Examiners, to contribute to the development of health care policy and regulations
and also serve as an excellent role model for our pharmacy students."
