Abramowitz named to Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners

Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack recently appointed Paul Abramowitz, Pharm.D., director of the Department of Pharmaceutical Care at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and professor of clinical and administrative pharmacy in the UI College of Pharmacy, to serve a second term on the Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners.

Abramowitz's term will run through 2005. The Board of Pharmacy Examiners is responsible for regulating the practice of pharmacy and the legal distribution of prescription drugs throughout the state. It is comprised of five pharmacist members and two representatives from the general public.

Abramowitz also serves as chair of the board of directors of the Iowa Statewide Poison Control Center, a joint venture of UI Hospitals and Clinics and the Iowa Health System. Abramowitz is a past-president of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

Jordan Cohen, dean of the UI College of Pharmacy, commented, "We are very proud that one of our faculty continues to serve on the Board of Pharmacy Examiners, to contribute to the development of health care policy and regulations and also serve as an excellent role model for our pharmacy students."

John Staley, Ph.D., associate director and chief operating officer of UI Hospitals and Clinics, said, "Paul's exceptional knowledge base, coupled with his unquestionable integrity, high standards and leadership capabilities, make him an excellent choice for serving his profession and the State of Iowa on the Board of Pharmacy Examiners."
