RiverFest 2002 brings music, food and fun to Hubbard Park May 3-5
The 24th annual RiverFest outdoor music, food and art festival will be Friday
through Sunday, May 3-5 at Hubbard Park next to the Iowa Memorial Union on
the University of Iowa campus.
RiverFest 2002, which kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Friday, will include KidFest,
a RiverRun, Taste of Iowa City, live music, carnival rides, comedian and ventriloquist
Phil Hughes and much more. KidFest offers face-painting, mask-making, a coloring
contest and storytelling.
RiverFest is being held in conjunction with the Riverbank Art Fair, which
runs May 4-5 on the northeast side of Hancher Auditoriums green area
along the Iowa River. The art fair, which is sponsored by the UIs Fine
Arts Council, features Midwestern artists exhibiting and selling their original
work, including clay, drawing, painting, metal and jewelry.
Highlights of RiverFest, which is sponsored by the UI Student Government,
- Friday, May 3: Two live bands, a local group called Ten Commandments
and a band from Des Moines called Brother Trucker.
- Sunday, May 5: RiverRun, a 5K run/walk/wheelchair race and a 10K run/wheelchair
race that both start at 9 a.m.
- Sunday, May 5 Hawkeye Hustle: A 50-yard dash for children 2 to 8 years
old that starts at 10:30 a.m. in Hubbard Park.
Riverfest runs from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and
noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
