Calvin Hall roof leak damages Admissions offices
A project to replace the roof of Calvin Hall on the University of Iowa campus
suffered a setback Monday night when a portion of the roof leaked substantially,
causing damage to equipment and furniture to several Admissions offices below.
The leaks, which occurred during Monday's heavy rainfall, were caused by
an incomplete drain installation that allowed water to migrate under the partially
installed roof membrane.
The roof contractor, Dryspace Inc. of Cedar Rapids, has been notified about
the problem and instructed to clean up the damage and make necessary repairs
to prevent future leaks. The UI Facilities Services Group is still calculating
the cost of the damage, which affected computers and other equipment, and
will provide Dryspace with a list of items for replacement or reimbursement
in the near future.
Calvin Hall is one of nine buildings on the UI campus whose roofs are being
repaired or replaced this summer.
