Patriotic Dairy Queen customers to benefit Children's Miracle Network
Dairy Queen customers have the opportunity this month to demonstrate their
patriotism and support patients and families at the Children's Hospital of
Iowa at the same time.
Throughout the month of July, Dairy Queen (DQ) stores across Iowa will be
selling "Miracle Flags" for one dollar. Customers can write their
names on the flag icons, which will then be displayed throughout the restaurants.
Proceeds from the sale of "Miracle Flags" will be donated to the
Children's Miracle Network (CMN). In Iowa, CMN supports patients and their
families receiving treatment at Children's Hospital of Iowa in University
of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Customers who purchase a "Miracle Flag"
will receive coupons for discounts on DQ items to use on subsequent visits.
A limited number of DQ stores will also offer special "All-American
Blizzard" flavor treats July 4-7. Twenty-five cents from the sale of
each of those treats will be donated to CMN.
Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, CMN is an international non-profit
organization dedicated to generating funds and awareness programs to benefit
children treated at 170 children's hospitals throughout the United States
and Canada. Its hallmark is that 100 percent of locally generated donations
stay in the local area to benefit patients at the local children's hospital.
To date, CMN has raised more than $2 billion for children's hospitals, including
$229 million in 2001 alone. The network also includes 75 corporate sponsors,
200 television stations and more than 135 radio stations.
The Children's Hospital of Iowa, located in Iowa City, is the state's longest-serving
children's hospital. More than 100,000 children receive care at the Children's
Hospital of Iowa and its statewide network of outreach clinics each year.
In 2001, the Children's Hospital of Iowa received almost $2.4 million from
