The Library Café snack, coffee cart is open at Main Library
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Libraries and the Iowa Memorial
Union have jointly opened Food for Thought, The Library Café, a coffee
cart and snack bar in the Main Library that features hot and cold beverages,
pastries, sandwiches and other items. The Library Café is located on
the first floor, South Lobby, and is open Monday thru Thursday from 10 a.m.
to 10 p.m.; Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Sunday, from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.
No service is offered on Saturdays or during semester intercessions.
"The opportunity to buy coffee, beverages, and cold meals will be a
convenience for the university community," said Janice Simmons-Welburn,
director of Central Public Services.
"We think this will prove to be beneficial to students, faculty and
visitors. Students will be able to break from their work, making their time
spent in research more productive," Simmons-Welburn said.
In order to protect collections and equipment, permitted and restricted
dining areas are designated. Preferred dining areas include the first and
second floor lounges and study areas. Prohibited areas include at or near
computer stations, and at or near photocopiers, printers, microfilm readers
or other equipment.
Food and drink are allowed in the Main Library only; and as a policy, all
beverages must be consumed in covered, spill-proof containers such as travel
mugs, sport and soft drink bottles with caps. A custom designed mug will be
sold at the Library Café. The IMU will offer a discount when this mug
is used for coffee refills.
All foods sold at the Library Café and those distributed via vending
machines are permitted in the Main Library. However, aromatic fast foods,
hot foods and take-out items are prohibited.
