UI director of affirmative action search underway
The University of
Iowa has resumed a national search for a director of affirmative action, responsible
for heading the UI's compliance with affirmative action, equal opportunity
laws and civil rights laws and policies. The named director would report directly
to the UI president and is part of the university's senior leadership team.
The screening of applicants begins March 25.
The UI conducted a similar search last July but did
not select any of the finalists. This year's search committee is chaired by
Sue Buckley, interim associate vice president and director of Human Resources,
and is made up of 11 additional UI faculty, staff and students.
The director will be responsible for preparing the
UI affirmative action plan and monitoring plan compliance and other initiatives.
He or she will oversee the investigation of and response to internal and external
complaints of discrimination and harassment. The director monitors hiring
and search efforts; coordinates compliance with disability and equity laws
and policies; coordinates and provides training and outreach programs throughout
the UI on such topics as sexual harassment, ADA, and diversity. Other duties
of the director include advising the president and UI officials on policy
issues effecting affirmative action, civil rights, equal opportunity and diversity,
and works collaboratively with the UI general counsel. View a complete position
