UI offers summer MBA program in London
Henry B. Tippie School of Management and the Institute for International Business
at the University of Iowa are offering a two-week summer study program in
London for Evening MBA students.
Registration is now under way for the Summer 2002
International Program Option (IPO), which runs from May 19 to June 2.
William Albrecht, UI professor of economics, will
teach the course, "International Business: Globalization, the U.S. and Europe"
for three semester hours of graduate credit. The class provides a close look
at the challenges and potentials of globalization and how it affects business
in America, Albrecht said. Topics include the European Union and the Euro,
trends toward financial integration in Europe, the World Trade Organization
and trade wars, and recent developments in Eastern Europe.
The course is designed to take advantage of the city of
London as a financial and commercial center by incorporating local business
people, academics and government officials as guest lecturers. The class will
also include a visit to the London Metal Exchange.
"London is an ideal location for students to gain
an education beyond the boundary of the classroom. It's a major international
center for commerce, trade, the arts, media, politics, government, and entertainment,"
In addition to academic excursions, students will
take a guided tour of London, participate in a traditional afternoon tea,
and attend the theater. Participants can also explore and experience the history
and culture of England on their own.
Application deadline for the class is Feb. 1. For
more information and for program fee details, see www.biz.uiowa.edu/iib
