RoughRiders jerseys raised $12,000 for Children’s Miracle Network

Fans of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders professional hockey team attending a special auction following the team's game last Saturday donated more than $12,000 to the Children's Miracle Network (CMN) to help patients at the Children's Hospital of Iowa.

The RoughRiders wore special jerseys last Nov. 23, Dec. 9, Jan. 4, and Feb. 23. The jerseys were adorned with the logos of CMN and Hy-Vee, a major CMN supporter, which donated costs of providing the jerseys. After the game on Feb. 23, the jerseys were auctioned with all proceeds benefiting CMN. The minimum bid for each jersey was $100.

The amount raised during the auction totaled $12,690. The final jersey auctioned, number 47, worn by goalie Bobby Goepfort, brought a bid of $3,000.

"The jersey auction certainly far exceeded our expectations," said Michelle Altmaier, CMN coordinator. "I am very impressed with the generosity of the RoughRiders and their fans and the support they are providing for CMN and the patients and families who are facing serious health challenges every day."

All proceeds of the event will benefit patients of the Children's Hospital of Iowa at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City and its outreach clinics across the state. One hundred percent of all donations to CMN remain in the region to benefit critically ill and injured children. More than 100,000 children receive care at the Children's Hospital of Iowa each year.

The Children's Miracle Network (CMN) is the nation's largest charitable organization. All of the funds raised locally stay in the area to benefit the region's children's hospital. Money donated to CMN is used to enhance the quality of patients' hospital stays, support research and to purchase sophisticated pediatric health care equipment. In 2000, the Children's Hospital of Iowa received almost $1.9 million from CMN.
