10-MINUTE PLAY FESTIVAL FEB. 14-17 -- The University Theatres Gallery series will present the "10-Minute Play Festival," an annual showcase for short plays and script excerpts by undergraduate playwrights in the University of Iowa Department of Theatre Arts, at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 14-16, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, in Theatre B of the UI Theatre Building.

Artistic director Kate Aspengren, a graduate of the Iowa Playwrights Workshop, says, "This annual festival provides the opportunity to showcase the work of eight undergraduate playwrights. The work is creative and wide-ranging. As always, the festival promises to be provocative, engaging and entertaining."

This season's line-up is: "The Benchwarmers" by Greg Flatt, directed by Brian Tuttle; "My Other Self" by Amanda Fredericks, directed by Maggie Conroy; "Ephemeral" by Spender Griffin, directed by Tina Shackleford; "Don's Block Party Comedy Hour" by Paul Rust, directed by Aaron Galbraith; "In the Cards" by Alison Reeger, directed by Andrew Barrett; "Grass" by Eric Burchett, directed by Nate Sieveking; "The Letting Go" by Kristina Sherwood, directed by Amber Miller; and "From Brian's Palm" by Kristopher Koehler, directed by Peter Gil-Sheridan

The festival features lighting design by Luke Olsen and sound design by Stacy Grutza.

Judith Moessner, marketing manager of the UI Division of Performing Arts, reminds potential audience members that the "10-Minute Play Festival" has become a very popular event, which requires early arrival to ensure seating. "This undergraduate annual sell-out show pushes the envelope and is a great night out," she says.

Tickets -- $5 ($3 for UI students, senior citizens and youth) -- will go one sale one hour before curtain time at the door.

The Department of Theatre Arts is part of the UI Division of Performing Arts in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
