UI winter commencement exercises set for Dec. 20-21

The University of Iowa will confer more than 1,200 degrees at winter commencement exercises to be held Friday and Saturday, Dec. 20 and 21, following the end of the fall academic session.

Ceremonies will be held for the Graduate College, the Henry B. Tippie College of Business, the College of Engineering, the College of Law, and the Colleges of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Education, Medicine and Nursing. Tickets are required for the Tippie College of Business commencement. The other ceremonies are open to the public; seats are not reserved and tickets are not necessary for admission. Doors will be open one hour before each ceremony. Due to safety concerns, guests will not be allowed to take in large bags or backpacks. Also, security officials reserve the right to inspect purses and camera bags.

The schedule of ceremonies is:

Graduate College: Friday, Dec. 20, 7:30 p.m., at Hancher Auditorium. Number of degree candidates: 290. Degrees will be conferred by Jon Whitmore, provost.

Henry B. Tippie College of Business: Saturday, Dec. 21, 9 a.m., at Hancher Auditorium. Number of degree candidates: 215. Degrees will be conferred by Phillip Jones, vice president for student services and dean of students.

Colleges of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Education. Medicine and Nursing: Saturday,
Dec. 21, 10 a.m., at Carver Hawkeye Arena. Number of degree candidates: 680. Interim president Willard L. Boyd will confer degrees.

College of Engineering: Saturday, Dec. 21, noon, Clapp Recital Hall. Number of degree candidates: 55. David Skorton, vice president for research and external relations, will confer degrees.

College of Law: Saturday, Dec. 21, 10:30 a.m., Boyd Law Building. Number of degree candidates: 27. Mark Schantz, general counsel, will confer the degrees.
