First presidential candidates scheduled to visit campus Dec. 11 and 16

The first two candidates for University of Iowa president are tentatively scheduled to make visits to campus on Wednesday, Dec. 11, and on Monday, Dec. 16, according to Jonathan Carlson, UI law professor and chair of the Presidential Search and Screen Advisory Committee. The dates of other candidate visits will be announced as they become known, Carlson said.

Candidates will be publicly identified the day before their visit, Carlson said. While on campus, each candidate will participate in a public symposium on "The Future of Public Higher Education." Each symposium will be at 4 p.m. on the day of the candidate's visit. Location of the symposium will be announced when the candidate is identified.

In addition, each candidate will meet with various groups, including student, faculty, staff and administrative leaders.

The presidential search and screen advisory committee has been asked by the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, to recommend four finalists for consideration by the Regents. The Regents will make the final decision on the appointment of the new president.

The search for a new University of Iowa president began when former President Mary Sue Coleman announced that she would step down on Aug. 1 to become president at the University of Michigan. In the meantime, Willard L. "Sandy" Boyd, a professor of law and former university president, has been serving as interim president.
