MEDICINE, PHARMACY WHITE COAT CEREMONIES AUG. 23 &
White Coat Ceremonies for incoming UI medical and pharmacy students
UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine: 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23,
UI College of Pharmacy: 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, Clapp Recital Hall
The White Coat Ceremonies at the UI Carver College of Medicine and the UI
College of Pharmacy are events that welcome new students to the colleges.
At the UI College of Medicine White Coat Ceremony, Robert Kelch, M.D., dean
of the College and vice president for statewide health services, will deliver
an address to the students titled, "Growth and Development of a Physician."
Following Kelch's speech, the medical students will be ceremonially cloaked
with their first white laboratory coats. Then, in the presence of family,
friends and faculty, they will recite the Oath of Hippocrates. A reception
will follow in the Hancher lobby.
At the UI College of Pharmacy White Coat Ceremony, Alumni Board president
Edward Maier and Bob Greenwood, UI College of Pharmacy preceptor, will address
the students. Jordan Cohen, Ph.D., dean of the College, also will give a short
speech. Bernard Sorofman, Ph.D., associate dean of the College, will serve
as master of ceremonies. After receiving their white laboratory coats, the
students will recite the Oath of a Pharmacist. A reception will follow the
