Entries being accepted for second UI Art in Science Contest
The University of Iowa Central Microscopy Research Facility (CMRF) is accepting
entries for its second UI Art in Science Contest, which showcases scientific
images in terms of their artistic value.
"This event was created last year to bring together people from different
scientific backgrounds and have them think about the 'art' in their work,"
said Martine Dunnwald, Pharm.D., Ph.D., UI assistant professor of dermatology
and one of the contest's organizers.
The contest is open to all UI faculty, staff and students. Any type of specimen
is acceptable. Entries will be judged on the following criteria: visual impact,
originality, technical proficiency and informational content.
All images will be displayed the week of Oct. 21 (location to be determined),
and winners will be announced Friday, Oct. 25 at the Iowa Microscopy Symposium
reception. Prizes include $100 for first place, $75 for second and $50 for
third. Each winner also will receive a framed and matted print of their image.
The deadline for entries is Oct. 1. For contest details or more information,
visit the CMRF Web site at www.uiowa.edu/~cemrf/
or contact Ryan Potter or Dunnwald by e-mail at email@example.com
