UI Department of Public Safety investigating alleged sexual assault
A female University of Iowa student filed a report of a sexual assault to
the UI Department of Public Safety at 11:35 p.m. Monday, April 29. The incident
occurred between 10:30 and 11:30 p.m. in a residence hall room on the UI campus.
The suspect is an acquaintance. This is the second report of a sexual assault
in the past three days. This case is not related to the earlier report.
Because this case is also under investigation, no additional details are
being made public at this time, said Duane Papke, DPS associate director.
The Department of Public Safety's Sex Crimes Unit is investigating the case.
SCU officers provide a variety of services, including making referrals for
services, facilitating medical treatment, collecting evidence, conducting
on-campus investigations involving sex crimes, and coordinating efforts between
assisting agencies, such as the Rape Victim Advocacy Program and the Johnson
County Attorney's Office.
