UI and ISU present April
5-6 Bioinformatics Workshop
University of Iowa and Iowa State University will present a Joint Bioinformatics
Workshop April 5-6, 2002, at the Molecular Biology Building on the Iowa State
University Campus, Ames, Iowa. The workshop will include a survey of emerging
bioinformatics activities in university research labs and Iowa industry.
term "bioinformatics" refers to the application of high-speed information
processing to a variety of biological research activities, according to Thomas
Casavant, UI professor of electrical and computer engineering. Casavant, whose
research includes helping scientists identify the genes involved in human
diseases, directs the UI's Coordinated Laboratory for Computational Genomics
and the ECE (Electrical and Computer Engineering) Parallel Processing Laboratory.
He is also a faculty member of the Ph.D. Program in Genetics.
information may be obtained by contacting Casavant at 319-335-5953 or firstname.lastname@example.org or by visiting the workshop
